The OC IAM qualification prepares professionals to operate as an Internal Audit Manager.
The OC IAM qualification AND the Global Certified Internal Audit (CIA) Global qualification serve as the underpinning qualifications that will lead to the IIA SA Professional Certified Internal Auditor (PCIA) designation.
The Principal Certified Internal Auditor (PCIA) is a designation that supervisory and management level internal auditors in the internal audit profession should strive to obtain. It is a South African designation recognised by SAQA and the Global IIA as unique to the South African legislative framework.
An Internal Audit Manager (IAM) manages internal audit functions and engagements (including assurance and consulting services) in accordance with the International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF).
The IAM contributes to the optimisation of organisational objectives and leadership, manages the internal audit function to achieve objectives efficiently and effectively, and ensures the development of high impact engagement communications that will facilitate appropriate decision making.
This IIA SA Occupational Qualification is one of a suite of four qualifications that caters for the Internal Audit profession. The role of internal auditing and the role of Internal Audit Managers within organisations is becoming increasingly demanding, especially for internal auditors to fulfil the role of business risk and corporate governance partners in organisations. Research has indicated that it is imperative that the competency levels of Internal Audit Managers in South Africa be addressed as a matter of urgency.
The OC IAM Occupational Certificate builds on the knowledge, competencies and skills obtained through achievement of the Occupational Certificate: Internal Auditor, Level 7 qualification. The OC IA qualification develops higher levels of cognitive and behavioural skills in individuals who will fill management roles in the future.
The Internal Audit Manager qualification has been developed with the intention of providing internal auditors with the knowledge, skills and competencies they require to effectively develop and manage internal audit functions that are able to successfully contribute to organisational and economic sustainability and integrity.
There is currently no other Internal Audit qualification in South Africa that ensures that candidates obtain practical exposure in a safe environment or on-the-job learning to develop future Internal Audit Managers.
